The past week has seen the BBC One Show take a #CausewayCrawl from Carrickfergus, along the magnificent coastal route of Northern Ireland, via Cushendun, Ballycastle, Portrush and finishing up in the historic Giants Causeway. We couldn’t have asked for a better week weather wise (thanks Barra and Cecilia!) to showcase our wonderful country to the rest of the UK and Ireland. The sun shone for the majority of the trip for Alex Jones and Matt Baker of the One Show, and it really did make all the difference to the viewing public.
On Thursday nights show, they were joined by special guest – Ian McElhinney aka Barristan Selmy from the hit show Game of Thrones. For Game of Thrones fans this was an opportunity to see him in the flesh, and perhaps get a few autographs and selfies with the screen actor. Alex presented him with a very unique and memorable gift – a wooden pen, carved from one of the Dark Hedges trees, which succumbed to the elements in a recent storm. Local craftsman – Taisie Turning, creates these wonderful gifts and the special guest looked extremely pleased and chuffed with it.
Lacada Lodge is in a great location for visiting the Game of Thrones locations – Ballintoy Harbour (The Iron Islands), The Dark Hedges (The Kings Road), Cliffs of Fairhead (Episode 3 in Series 7), Larrybane at Carrick-a-rede (Stormlands) and Dunluce Castle (House of Greyjoy) .
There is so much to see and do along the Causeway Coast you will need to stay for weeks!!
